ABOUT the TIMBER
All our boards are currently made using Merbau, but importantly they are STRICTLY recycled offcuts that would otherwise be completely wasted.
The popular use of Merbau in new timber products is frankly horrid for the environment and definitely not sustainable. This is a biiiig topic to cover in full, but in summary it causes massive, often illegal deforestation of rainforests in South East Asia. This results in the destruction of some very vital ecosystems including those of endangered species such as orangutans. The trees themselves have a very slow regeneration rate (taking one approximately eighty years to reach full maturity), meaning that it has a very real chance of commercial extinction in the not too distant future if it’s current uses are kept up.
Using these offcuts to create something lasting helps ensure those trees weren’t entirely lost in vain.

Who is this FLORD of the BORD?
Meet Floyd, (flerd/flord to some) a singer, guitarist and maker of all things wooden.
“ flordbord was born not only from my general frustration in the lack of sustainable and affordable equipment for musicians, but also just a desire to have something prettttttyyyyy.
As well as that something pretty, I wanted to try make it as functional as possible, and also attempt to do my little part in reducing waste, especially in regards to endangered timber.
Being lucky enough to grow up with my dad’s tools and shed to tinker with, my passion for creating things started very young, making everything from some questionable bows and arrows, to my very own bed frame.
Expanding upon that passion by working in various joinery/carpentry roles, I learned the skills needed to start this little venture. This lead to making various pedalboards for myself and friends, crafting new versions almost every time I changed the pedals at my feet.
With the latest iteration, I realised that other folks may share my desire for a board that looks a little nicer than a sheet of plywood covered in velcro, or the countless iterations of matte black aluminium out there, hence flordbord. “
